Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 or higher software is required to print most Art of Geography maps. The software is freely available from Adobe and runs on Windows, Mac OS, UNIX/Linux, and mobile devices.
When printing a map designed for tabloid or larger paper to letter size, there are two approaches. The easiest way is to let Acrobat scale the page down to the paper size. However text labels may became too small to read. The other option is to print the map in "tiles". Acrobat Pro can do this automatically, but in Reader you can tile manually (you may need version 6 or above).
After that page prints, scroll down to the bottom half of the map, and repeat steps 3 & 4. Cut and tape the two halves together and you have a tabloid size map.
To get the best readability of these maps, make sure you choose the highest resolution that your printer supports. Also consider using higher quality paper that supports higher resolution printing (for those printers which offer this, like an Epson inkjet).
To make your printed map more waterproof, try one of three approaches: lamination, insert into a plastic sleeve, or printing it on National Geographic Adventure Paper (which only works in an inkjet printer).
